Areas of care include oncology, stroke, cardiac, gastrointestinal and pulmonary.
As the Oncology unit, all MPCU nurses grow and remain the experts in Cancer Care and End of Life care in the hospital.
MPCU is the Certified Stroke unit and our nurses are the experts in the hospital for stroke care.
This expertise won the unit and the hospital the highest recognition from the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association of a Gold Plus with Honors.
This is a direct reflection of the knowledge and expertise the nurses on this Stroke unit possess.
MPCU is the only unit in the hospital where a nurse has the opportunities to receive four types of ANCC Certifications:

The registered professional clinical nurse (RN) is accountable and responsible for the provision and coordination of competent, evidence-based care along the care continuum, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation.
The clinical nurse participates in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to advance the patient plan of care, achieve outcomes and enhance operational efficiency.
The nurse adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements.
Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN) or Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) Requires current state of Indiana license as Registered Nurse.
Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program.
Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA.
Other advanced Life Support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies Requires an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Indiana or an active Nurse Licensure Compact (NLC) RN license.
We are committed to providing a comprehensive, personalized support system to new graduate nurses to help you transition to the role of professional nurse.
Once hired to a department, alongside nursing orientation, all new graduate nurses in their first nursing role will have the opportunity to participate in a Nurse Residency Program called Transition to IU Health Nursing Practice.
The Nurse Residency program goals are to provide socialization and support, enhance clinical judgment, and promote professional development.
